I helped found the Glen Arbor Art Association, now Glen Arbor Arts Center, in 1989 when I taught pottery classes in the building that is now Lake Street Studios. Since 2006 I have been Potter-in-Residence and studio manager at Thoreson Farm, the Glen Arbor Arts Center’s clay studio, classroom, and artist-in-residence studio within the Port Oneida District of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
I have also enjoyed being on the Artist-in-Residence selection committee for many years. Sharing my 50 years of pottery experience is very satisfying. Seeing my students’ “AHA moments” as each step of the making process clicks for them, is exciting. The sense of place the farm provides and the accomplishment of making that students experience will stay with them.
Through the Arts Center many programs, volunteers, and teachers, the Glen Arts Center provides outstanding creative opportunities for this area. I love being a part of this.
